Unlike most universes as I’ve come to learn, my universe was shrinking and quickly approaching a singularity, planets were getting sucked into their host stars, black holes were a common sight and distances between worlds had been greatly reduced, interstellar travel had become possible even without a faster than light travel.

My universe is home to many varying species, but as they vary in their appearance, so they vary in the minds and attitudes, there are those who believe in love and peace and there are those who would kill anything alien to them without a seconds thought, but the one thing they all agreed upon was the imminent destruction of the universe.

All but one actually.

Of the civilizations in my universe, two species were the oldest and most advanced, the Ugboans and the Eyinyans. These two species evolved around the same times and and their civilizations developed equally, but while the Ugboans sought to preserve life in the universe.

The Eyinyans sought the opposite, they deem every other lifeforms except themselves as inferior ad would stop at nothing to expand their colonies, it didn’t help that they are reptilians and breed in multitudes, so their colonies have to expand as fast as possible to keep up with their ever increasing population.

These two civilizations had been at war for countless millennials before they learnt about the fate of the universe, the Ugboans decided to save as many species they could, they helped guild several young civilizations and brought together the most intelligent member of any species they encounter thought them their science hoping that one day someone will find a way for the us to leave this universe.

In the meantime, they rescued species whose planets were spiraling into their parent star, or approaching a black hole, this is quite common here, for those whose planets where not in such grave danger, a shield could be built around their planet to protect them from excessive heat from their sun, some species have been relocated to space stations, for some species special care had to be taken in contacting them so an agent is usually sent long before their planet will be in any real danger, to blend in and live among them and in a way, prepare them.

They have formed what we came to know as the planetary alliance, several hundreds of species working together to save life in the universe and ultimately escape it all together.

It is always a battle, seeking out and rescuing young civilizations on one hand and fighting to keep the Eyinyans at bay, who have chosen to cater only for their species at the expense of others.

They roam the galaxies looking for habitable safe worlds, kill every being on them and colonize it, but no planet was useless to them, if it couldn’t inhabit them, it could fuel their engines and supply raw materials for their ever increasing need for expansion, for ships.

If a world was inhabitable, they bring the big drill as we like to call it here, they bore a hole into the center of the planet and suck a molten crystal found at the core of most planets, they use this as fuel for their ships.

This is primitive but an effective technology, and I think they keep it because destruction is in their nature, and once the molten crystal is sucked out of a planet, it collapses upon itself, some say this is the only time an Eyinyan has been seen to smile.

My mind is now so open that my eyes cannot comprehend the sight it sees, I and my entire species owe our lives to the Ugboans, merely a year ago I was only a farmer on world, they call us growers, our species are born each with a designated task, there were growers, tinkerers and physicians mainly, everyone born will follow in the footsteps of their parents before them.

This served the society quite well, but today I sit among students groomed to be scientists, when I couldn’t have been considered for a tinkerer on primitive planet.

I and others like me have been undergoing tutelage and training to become scientists, we soon will be stationed in different parts of the universe, where we will serve to help develop new technologies and hopefully one of us will one day discover a way to get us all out of this universe before the imminent singularity destroys us all.

My new life excites me a lot, and not only because I could finally realize my dream of being a tinkerer, but because this place never seizes to surprise me, just when you think you’ve seen it all, something unbelievable happens, not just that, here, I have friends from other species that look so strange, they will scare my mother into several sleepless nights. Some species don’t even communicate the way we do, we all wear a special tech that enables us to understand each other.

My family and the rest of my species have been relocated a massive planet where they cohabitate with several other species that were rescued just like us, but few of us have been given the chance to join several arms of the alliance, to serve and help save us all.

I was selected as a science trainee after a test, it was the moment that changed my entire life.

My adventures have only begun.

We ship out tomorrow for Xera, it is said that Xera is so large it makes other space stations look like insects in comparison, my life is about to begin in a whole different galaxy. I can barely hide my excitement, but before I follow along with my adventure, perhaps you should know a bit of my origin and how I came live among the Ugboans.

My name is Uzok, my planet was called Uwah, and this is my story, this is how it all began….
